Preventing Cushion Damage in Patio Furniture Chairs

If you've recently purchased a patio set of furniture, you know how expensive it can be. Very often, one of the most expensive parts of this purchase is the patio furniture chairs, as these take quite a bit of material to make. So, when it comes to taking care of your patio furniture, one of the most important things to make sure you're taking care of is those chairs. Unfortunately, there are lots of threats facing those chairs. Let's take a closer look at some of those threats and what you can do to prevent them.

Water Damage

One of the biggest threats to patio furniture chairs is water. Since they're going to be outdoors, they're going to have to deal with a lot of water. Depending on where you live will have a lot to do with how big of a threat the water will be to your chairs. For example, if you live in the South where it rains regularly and there is a threat of hurricanes, you need chairs that can stand up to water damage more than you do in a dry state such as Arizona. Water can get into the cushions of your chairs and lead to molding and mildewing. If allowed to go on too long, the cushions may be completely ruined. So, if you live in an area that is used to a lot of humidity and precipitation, you may want to look for furniture that is mold and mildew resistant.

Sun Damage

The next possible threat to your furniture is from the sun. Think about what the sun can do to your skin. If you don't wear sunscreen you can get a sunburn, blisters and have a lot of damage done to your skin. Well, those rays are also damaging to your outdoor furniture. At the least, the sun can cause your patio furniture chairs to fade. The cushions that had vibrant colors once upon a time may start to become dull and boring. In addition, the sun can actually begin to break down the fibers in your furniture. So, the best course of action if you're in a sunny area is to look for furniture that is made with some sort of UV protection that can stand up to the sun.

Advanced Protection

One of the wisest things that you can do is to think about preventing damage before it happens to your furniture. In this case, what that means is to look into the various protective options that can be taken for your furniture. In addition to looking for furniture that is made for your particular areas weather, often, there are extra protections that can be added to furniture. In your house you may have already added things like stain proofing to your furniture. Well, there are similar protective measures that can be taken for your outdoor furniture is well. As you discuss the pieces of furniture you're most interested in with the retailer, ask about the various protective options that are available and consider which ones would be wise to add to your furniture purchase.
